If you have a macular condition, checking the Amsler Grid periodically is a good way to monitor for any changes. Leakage of fluid or bleeding can distort the appearance of the grid in the same way that a soggy piece of film might distort a picture taken by a camera.
Wearing any glasses you normally use for reading, take a quick glance at the chart, one eye at a time. If at first glance you notice new distortion in the grid, this could be due to a new change in the macula, and you should call us. If you stare at the chart for more than a few seconds, this can cause an optical illusion. Noticing a change only after staring at the chart is less ominous, but if you have any question, call us and we will discuss the best plan.
