Traction Retinal Detachment

A traction retinal detachment occurs when scar tissue, often related to diabetes, forms on the inner surface of the retina. This scar tissue contracts and pulls the retina off of the eye wall, resulting in detachment and vision loss. Modern vitrectomy surgery techniques can be used to remove such scar tissue, relieve traction, and reattach the retina.
